In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track in just the space of six months. The track is a mixture of pop music and reggaeton was not only a way to bring renewed interest for reggaeton, it also drew interest to Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish most of the time, and another four in the year the year 2016. The Despacito album reached its peak commercial success in 2017, 19 songs that were mainly written in Spanish made it to at the very top of 100. This number rose to 41 in 2020. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together in the project MIA MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma collaborated on Medellin, 2019 The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton stars were complaining about the genre's direction toward the mainstream.
